#GameFreakLied trending over alleged 3DS, Switch model comparison

Pokemon fans have taken to social media using the #GameFreakLied hashtag, believing developer Game Freak has been misleading players ahead of Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The hashtag has been trending overnight, based on Sword and Shield leaks that seem to have originated on 4Chan. The specific leak that’s caused the hashtag suggests that Game Freak has used the same Pokemon models on Switch as previously seen on 3DS, a contradiction of a statement by the developer that said it would up-rez models for the Switch. A post allegedly comparing the 3DS and Switch models has proven to be very popular on Reddit.

The work involved to uprez Pokemon models to look better on Switch was one of the reasons Game Freak offered a smaller Pokedex inside Pokemon Sword and Shield.

For the moment, the rumours are just that: rumours. Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter, but we’ll report back as we learn more.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is available from 15 November; Stevivor won’t be reviewing the title as Nintendo Australia would not provide early access review codes to the region.
