GAME to close 40 stores across the UK

A day after we reported that EB Games will close 19 stores across Australia, retailer GAME has confirmed its intent to close 40 stores across the UK.

GAME has already served notices to 27 retail locations including Mansfield, Canterbury, Watford, Glasgow Fort, Leicester, Derby, Norwich Chapelfield, Lakeside, Bexleyheath and Carmarthen.

“We are working closely with landlords throughout the UK to ensure that we do not have to vacate the 40 locations which could lead to a number of job losses,” a statement from GAME reads.

“However, we are facing a challenging retail market and GAME with its extensive retail footprint, needs to restructure and landlords need to work with us in setting realistic, fair rents.”

GAME was acquired by Frasers Group back in June 2019; its intent to consolodate or close existing stores was made at that same time.
