Forza Motorsport won’t offer splitscreen co-op

Microsoft's latest game to lack the feature...

Forza Motorsport won’t offer splitscreen co-op at launch, following in the shoes of another Microsoft big hitter: Halo Infinite.

“Our heavy investment in pushing our new graphical features and our complete overhaul of the rendering engine unfortunately made splitscreen really difficult to implement, and it’s also not going to be in for launch,” said creative director Chris Esaki during a recent livestream.

Esaki also confirmed that certain multiplayer modes will not backfill spots with AI, and that Spectator mode will also be unavailable at launch.

“Having players come into a featured multiplayer event and taking player slots, and then spectating? It’s not really the racing we had intended,” Esaki said.

“Similarly, racing with AI in featured multiplayer with all its potential impacts on your safety rating also didn’t make a whole lot of sense to have and is not going to be available for us at launch.”

Halo Infinite was also lacking splitscreen co-op at launch before the feature was pulled altogether. While Infinite had an Xbox One release to blame, Forza Motorsport is a current-gen only affair, available on Windows PC and Xbox Series S & X.

Expect Forza Motorsport from 10 October on Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
