External hard drive support, real names coming to Xbox One’s June software update

External storage on the Xbox One, recently teased by Microsoft, has been confirmed for the Xbox One June software update.

The functionality comes alongside the ability to view your Friends’ real names on the console.

Moreover, Pin organisation and new SmartGlass features including OneGuide and a Universal Remote Control will be included in the update.

The Xbox One will support up to two external hard drives at one time, provided the HDDs are 256GB or larger and support USB 3.0. Once formatted, games, apps and game add-ons can be stored externally.

Hard drives can be used on additional Xbox Ones, provided the content owner is signed-in on that console and connected to Xbox Live.

The update will be released in June alongside changes to Xbox Live Gold and the new Games with Gold program for Xbox One.
