Demon’s Souls reportedly runs in 1440p, 60FPS on PS5

Update: The Demon’s Souls listing on the PlayStation website has been updated to confirm the game will run in either “4K Mode (play in 4K resolution) [or] High Frame Rate Mode (play with a higher targeted frame rate),” though it’s not clear as yet what resolution will be offered in the latter option.

Original story: Demon’s Souls reportedly runs in 1440p to hit 60 frames-per-second (FPS) on PS5, Digital Foundry has concluded by analysing the game’s most recent PS5 Showcase gameplay.

The tech outlet reports that the gameplay shown off only hits 1440p and 60FPS, though notes that a 4K, 30FPS mode could be offered for those who prefer resolution to framerate. Neither Sony nor developer Bluepoint has made comment about visual performance as yet.

Considering the complexity and challenge that the Souls games offer — and that the original Demon’s Souls laid the groundwork for — we’d assume most players would prefer a higher framerate over resolution. That said, are you pleased with 60FPS and 1440p, or were you expecting more from a PS5 launch title. Why or why not?

Demon’s Souls heads to PS5 on launch day, 12 November.
