Cross-play between Xbox One and PS4 easily possible thanks to “configuration issue” inside Fortnite

An error had caused to accidental cross-play between Xbox One and PS4 inside Fortnite.

As reported on Reddit by user PRE_-CISION-, the error meant users across both current-gen platforms could play Fortnite together.

“We had a configuration issue and it has now been corrected,” an Epic Games representative confirmed in a statement.

This marks the first time that a major release has seen cross-play between Xbox One and PS4. While developer Psyonix is trying to get cross-play enabled between Sony and Microsoft for Rocket League, Sony has blocked all attempts. The same is true for cross-play between Minecraft on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch — again, Sony won’t come to the table.

Despite Sony’s reluctance to allow cross-play, this glitch shows how easy it would be to implement such a feature.

Would you benefit from cross-play in games on both Xbox One and PS4?
