Control’s Oldest House discussed by Remedy

The latest Control dev diary is all about The Oldest House, the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control.

Watch below as Remedy’s Sam Lake, Mikael Kasurinen and more discuss the headquarters, which looks to be as much of a character in the game as lead protagonist Jesse Faden.

“Control takes place in the headquarters of [the] Federal Bureau of Contol. A place called The Oldest House,” Creative Director, Sam Lake, said of the setting. “It’s this featureless, bleak, concrete… skyscraper in Manhattan.”

“[The building] is sealed off from our reality. Through that comes… logical thinking,” Game Director, Mikael Kasurinen, added. “[The Bureau] need to be independent, they need to be autonomous. And that was one statement that helps us to define how to design this place.”

Narrative Lead, Anna Megill, compared the brutalist architecture of The Oldest House to the headquarters of the FBI.

In our short time with Control at E3 2018, we learned The Oldest House provides Remedy the chance to diverge from titles like Alan Wake and Quantum Break and provide a more open-world, Metroidvania-like experience.

Control is planned for a 2019 release on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.You can watch this latest dev diary in full below.
