Alan Wake 2 new game plus mode coming 11 December 2023

What a Christmas present.

Update: Today at the Game Awards 2023, Remedy confirmed that Alan Wake 2′s new game plus mode will drop on 11 December 2023.

Original story: The teased Alan Wake 2 new game plus mode was teased even further by Remedy over the weekend, with a December 2023 release date likely.

Remedy took to the official Twitter account of the franchise with an image that has Alan illuminating the words “New Game +”. It sports a caption that reads, “New month, new game… plus?”

As we reported back in late October, new game plus was planned all along by Remedy’s Sam Lake and will offer up a host of new content. Included in the mix is what Lake has termed an “alternate narrative” that adds “an additional layer to the already layered experience”.

The new game plus mode will add new manuscript pages and video content, and of course will let players retain weapons and upgrades. A new nightmare difficulty will also become available to players, but seemingly is not tied to new game plus exclusively.

Also coming to Alan Wake 2 are two pieces of announced DLC. One expansion is titled Night Springs and will focus on “several familiar characters from the world of Alan Wake” — we’re hoping for Tim Breaker and Barry Wheeler, personally. The second is called The Lake House and will follow the Federal Bureau of Control as it investigates a “mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake” that you can already (sort of) visit in the main game.

We adored Alan Wake 2, calling it a masterpiece and giving it a 10/10 score.

Alan Wake 2 is nothing short of a masterpiece, and a game that you absolutely need to play,” I wrote at the time. “Kudos, Remedy.”

Alan Wake 2 is now available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
