The PS5 Pro was announced by Sony overnight, and will hit store shelves from 7 November with a whopping $1,200 AUD price tag.
Confirme pricing for the console — which will sport a 2TB SSD and includes Astro’s Playroom — currently sits at $1,199.95 AUD, $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax). (We’ve updated this story with Aussie pricing).
It’s also worth noting that those prices above are for a discless PS5 Pro — if you’d like a disc drive to go along with the powerful new machine, you’ll have to pay extra for one ($159 AUD), just as you can with the latest model of PS5. The vertical stand shown in the image above is also sold seperately.
“We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS,” Hideaki Nishino wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.”
Those include an upgraded GPU “that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory,” Nishino said. “Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.”
Next is the ability for advanced ray tracing “that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light,” Nishino continued. “This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.”
Finally, Sony will employ AI-driven upscaling, called “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail,” Nishino concluded.
“Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro,” Nishino said. “This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.”
Titles already to support PS5 Pro enhancements include the likes of Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and more.
