Our program continues.
Another day, another Game of the Year (GOTY) 2025 award. This time, Stevivor staffers are declaring what we view as the best role-playing game, or RPG, of the year.
Simply put, RPG lovers ate well in 2025. Indie darling Clair Obscur Expedition 33 was our hands-down favourite of the year, followed in a tight race for second and third, respectively in Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed.
“This is a game that will ALWAYS do the Cool Thing, in its visuals or storytelling or combat, every time,” Matt wrote in his 9.5/10 review back in April. “To me it reads as a love letter to the power fantasy of a fantasy RPG, and I love that maximalist response to the player fantasy.”
If you’re hungry for RPGs, you can also check out our 9.5/10 review of The Outer Worlds here, and our 7.5 review of Avowed here.
Our Game of the Year 2025 awards program will run through until the end of the year. Tomorrow, we’re awarding Best Action-Adventure Game of the Year.
