Stevivor’s GOTY 2015: Best re-release or remaster

Welcome to the first in a series of Stevivor Game of the Year 2015 awards. A changing industry means changing awards, as is very evident with our first gong.

This year saw myriad re-releases and remastered games hitting current-gen consoles. Microsoft came out swinging with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remastered title that also included the entire backwards compatible Xbox 360 Gears library. On the other hand, Sony re-released a bunch of titles with very limited enhancements and upscaling to 1080p.

In the end, Microsoft’s efforts took them the extra mile, resulting in Stevivor’s staff selecting Gears: Ultimate and Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D as joint winners in this category.

“The franchise was made for co-op and it shows,” Shane said of Ultimate Edition in his review. “This is the type of game that encourages you to grab a friend and have some fun. You’ll definitely be rewarded for doing so and you’re sure to laugh the whole time.”

Meanwhile, I myself lamented that Majora’s Mask 3D was the first time I’d played the classic. “I’m a little late to the party, but goddamn, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is one of the best games I’ve ever played,” I wrote, beginning my review.

Congratulations to both our winners, and stay tuned for more Stevivor GOTY awards!
