Nintendo used its Treehouse livestream to confirm that two Joy-Con Grips will be available for the Nintendo Switch: one that charges your Joy-Cons when docked, and one that doesn’t. For the latter, you’ll have to lay down more cash.
“There’s also a Charging Grip accessory that’ll come as well, that you can actually plug these into — plug a spare set of Joy-Con into — and charge,” Nintendo’s Nate Bihldorff said during the livestream.
There is a bundled Joy-Con Grip included with the Nintendo Switch itself — retailing for $469.95 AUD — but that is merely a shell for the controllers. If you like to purchase the charging Grip, pictured above, you can do so for $39.95 AUD.
The charging Grip uses USB-C, just like the Switch itself.
Nintendo has said that the Joy-Con controllers will average 20 hours of use before the need to recharge, so at least that’s something. The Switch itself will average 2.4-6.5 hours per charge, the publisher also confirmed.
