Nintendo partners with DoCoMo to launch Japan-only 3G tethering for 3DS with Android

Nintendo announced — translation provided by Go Nintendo —  that it will partner with telecommunication company DoCoMo to launch a 3G tethering service for Android devices exclusively in Japan.

Dubbed Easy Tethering for Nintendo 3DS, the app will be available for compatible Android smartphones and tablets on the Google Play store tomorrow. The app is free and makes use of WPS protocol to give users a quick and easy way of getting their 3DS online on the move when WiFi isn’t available.

By using the app and then completing a survey between July and 30 September users will have the chance to receive a download code for a 3DS Virtual Console game. The following devices are currently compatible with the app, with more expected to follow:

  • Xperia ™ Z2 SO-03F
  • AQUOS ZETA SH-04F
  • ARROWS NX F-05F
  • Xperia ™ A2 SO-04F
  • AQUOS PAD SH-06F
  • Xperia ™ Z2 Tablet SO-05F
