League of Legends burns tides with the new Bilgewater-themed event

League of Legends will be taking on a distinctly piratic theme for the next few weeks with the beginning of a new in-game event focused on the seafaring city of Bilgewater. Bilgewater is the home to all sorts of scoundrels and rascals, and this event will be bringing those into the spotlight.

Burning Tides, the official name for the event, will also bring 6 new Bilgewater themed skins as well as a new map for the All-Random game mode and a new featured game mode to boot. This game mode was outed on the PBE some time ago by Surrender@20, the full details of which you can read here.

The event itself will focus mainly on four champions and tell a salty tale that builds the lore around Bilgewater. Proceedings have kicked off already with act one of a multi-part story available to read. This story focuses on Twisted Fate and his old friend-come-nemesis Graves. These two champions have a long history together and the story, which you can read here, is pretty damn good already.

The other two champions this event will focus on are Gangplank and Miss Fortune. Gangplank has received a major rework this patch, updating his frankly average kit, and Miss Fortune also received some minor tweaks to make her more viable again. The story has already touched on Gangplanks new and fiercer character, with more to come.

The event will launch when (or shortly after) patch 5.14 drops later on tonight. You can read all the details of the patch, including champion nerfs, buffs and other changes, here. All details of the event can be found at the event site.
