Destiny 2: Bungie changes all Road Complex AA1, Errant Knight 1.0 armor regardless of White Supremacist imagery

Seemingly every piece of Destiny 2‘s Road Complex AA1 and Errant Knight 1.0 Hunter armors have been amended after players discovered select pieces featured White Supremacist imagery.

As detailed last week, the Road Complex AA1 Gauntlets featured stylised text that resembled the Kekistan flag (above), a symbol popular with the alt-right. While Bungie promised to remove said imagery from the piece, users have taken to Bungie’s forums to complain that all items in the armor sets have been altered regardless of the symbol’s appearance. Players also report that they can see the original armor in their in-game menus, though their amended forms appear in game and to others who inspect their characters.

Stevivor can confirm the amendments impact the Road Complex AA1 Hunter Leg armor. Below is a screencap of what the original Road Complex AA1 Hunter Leg armor looks like, and what players who own the item will see if they inspect their characters in-game.

This differs greatly from how other players view the character when inspecting, or how the character actually appears in-game. The following shots feature the Hunter with the amended Road Complex AA1 Legs.

As you can see above, the sleek Road Complex AA1 Legs have been replaced with the equivalent of bulky Cricket pads (above; above, far right).

Users took to Bungie’s forums to voice their displeasure.

“Please Bungie, just remove the symbol not the model of the set, just spent a shader to make the Errant Knight boots look the way I want, to find out you just decided to slap one of the ugliest hunter pieces over the best,” wrote Vhaius.

“It seems that all Road Complex AA1 armor is bugged,” added QuiGonJinnocide. “It all appears correctly in the menu, but in game appears as Dead End Cure. Not the biggest deal in the world, but needs to fixed. I wore Road Complex almost exclusively because it made my hunter look like a freakin ninja. Now I look like I belong in Call of Duty.”

Users took to Reddit with similar complaints.

Bungie didn’t address specific complaints, instead offering generic support.

“We are actively removing imagery from the game that does not properly represent Destiny, Bungie, this community, or the values that we hold,” a representative wrote. “As such, some armor is currently represented by alternate geometry in-world. In a future update, the gear icons will be revised to follow this change.”

We’ve gone to Activision to confirm if the appearance of the armor being shown in-world is indeed the final form of the gear, or if this is just a temporary measure while a permanent fix is prepared.

Do you own a piece of Hunter gear that’s been amended even if the Kekistan flag-like symbol wasn’t present? Are you happy or unhappy with the change?

Destiny 2 is available now on Xbox One and PS4. It heads to Windows PC later in October.
