Mass Effect: Andromeda quest guide: Ryder Family Secrets

Of all the sidequests Mass Effect: Andromeda has, Ryder Family Secrets is without a doubt the most important to complete. Or, it’s at least tied with Movie Night. We show you how to get, and complete, the Ryder Family Secrets quest below.

This page is a relatively spoiler-free walkthrough, though next page goes into more detail about the quest’s conclusion and its potential ramifications.

Starting off

  • You’ll acquire the quest after speaking with Director Tann during the quest titled A Better Beginning. You can also kickstart it by speaking with SAM on the Hyperion, or by finding an encrypted memory before speaking with anyone else.
  • After triggering the quest, you’ll be asked to visit your twin in the Medbay. Do so, or else they’ll be pissed down the line.
  • From that point on, it’s a matter of finding memory triggers.

Memory triggers

  • The first memory trigger is in Alec Ryder’s room on the Hyperion. Play the audio logs that you can, then enter the SAM node and play the first memory.
  • Doing so will give you access to more audio logs in Alec’s room.
  • Planet Eos memory triggers: Each trigger is listed on the world map — be aware that you’ll have to come back to Eos for some of them, as they’re unreachable when you first visit the planet.
  • Planet Havarl memory triggers: Each trigger is again listed on the world map. Find them as you complete other quests.
  • Planet Voeld memory triggers: Each trigger is again listed on the world map. Find them as you complete other quests.
  • Planet Elaaden memory triggers: Each trigger is again listed on the world map. Find them as you complete other quests.

The plot thickens

  • Finding all of the mapped memory triggers will unlock Alec’s memories. You can play these at the SAM node whenever you’re prompted.
  • After enough, you’ll be prompted to go to Alec’s room and play logs about a mysterious benefactor.
  • Head back to Tann to ask about the benefactor when prompted, then go to Addison’s office to look over records.
  • You’ll then be steered to Initiative founder Jien Garson’s apartment. Scan near the bed to playback a scene, then scan for and enter a hidden passage. Read the datapads on the desk.
  • Head to the Nexus’ Cultural Centre and speak with Garson’s holo, asking about the hidden message when prompted.

The last memory trigger and the big reveal

  • At this point, you’re told to find the last memory trigger, but the mission tracker isn’t that forthcoming with its location. We eventually found it on Havarl, near the top of the map:

  • Head back to SAM on the Hyperion and watch the final memory. You can then head to Alec’s room and listen to the final encrypted logs.
  • Head to the tram to launch the quest’s final cutscene, including the big (HUGE!) reveal.

We’ve got a video with the location of the final memory alongside the conclusion of the quest itself if you’re wanting to watch.
