There is no single player campaign in Star Wars: Battlefront

At the Star Wars: Battlefront media briefing at Star Wars Celebrations, Design Director Niklas Fegraeus confirmed that the title does not feature a traditional single player campaign.

Battlefront is a multiplayer focused title and thus includes modes which cater from 8 players all the way up to 40. However, Fegraeus explained that DICE is aware the some players want to play alone, or offline or even just with one friend. Battlefront has those players covered.

A mode dubbed ‘Battlefront missions’ supplements Battlefront’s multiplayer focus and is a collection of crafted challenges inspired by events from the films, playable both in single player, online co-op and local splitscreen. According to Fegraeus the missions feature a high level replayability and will prove to be a great challenge for eve the most skilled players when set to the high difficulties.

The Battlefront missions have been designed as something both the casual and hardcore player can enjoy, together and alone. Fegraeus promised that there is much more to the missions, however he wasn’t able to reveal any additional information at this stage.

While some players may be disappointed that there is no traditional campaign, missions sounds like a great addition to a multiplayer game for when you need a break or want to show off the game to your friend. The inclusion of local splitscreen is a huge win and should be celebrated like the Ewoks just overthrew the Empire.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 17 November 2015.
