Nintendo opens US web store for digital games

Nintendo have quietly added the ability to buy and pre-order digital games to their US web store, with the ability to send download codes straight to your Wii U or 3DS. While not available at this time, it could be a prelude to being able to pre-load digital games and start downloads to the console in sleep mode.

This is only available to US customers at the moment, and it would be a big jump in functionality for Nintendo’s Australian web presence to offer digital purchases, currently the ‘buy now’ button on their Australian site links to a list of retailers stocking their games. We can still hope, as Nintendo has advanced their online services significantly in the last 18 months, with more improvements to come.
