Retailer GameStop wants to ramp up exclusive content for those who preorder from their stores

According to investment company RW Baird, retailer GameStop is ready to ramp up exclusive content its stores will provide to those who preorder games.

“[GamesStop] indicated that software publishers are more enthusiastic about partnering with it. For example, by offering exclusive content on each major game release, and longer term, future models may include GameStop offering exclusive gameplay,” reads an investor note by RW Baird.

The note also indicated that GameStop is interested in having exclusive levels that would remain locked-out if a game wasn’t purchased through the retailer, much like Catwoman’s content was in Batman: Arkham City.

GamesBeat followed up, asking for comment on the issue from GameStop. Spokesperson Jackie Smith confirmed the investor note as “accurate”, adding, “We are working with our [development] partners to build in a longer lead time. And we are working with them to get both physical and digital exclusives for our customers.”

What do you think of this gamers? Are GameStop’s plans helpful or harmful to the industry?
