It was announced on the PlayStation Blog today that a major update will roll out for PlayStation 4 tomorrow, while minor updates for PS Vita and the smartphone PS App will also be released.
The major feature of PlayStation 4 update 1.70 is the release of SHAREFactory. After updating the PS4’s firmware, users will be able to select the SHAREFactory download icon and once installed will allow users to edit and customise captured gameplay videos. SHAREFactory will let users add special effects, commentary, picture in picture (with the PlayStation Camera) and custom soundtracks. SHAREFactory videos will be able to be uploaded directly to Facebook or can be sent to a USB drive to be shared elsewhere.
Other changes coming to PS4 is the pre-loading of pre-ordered digital games, the ability to disable HDCP and use personal capture devices, exporting of gameplay videos to USB storage, livestreaming of games now in 720p and with the option to back up streams on Twitch and UStream to rewatch later, options to change the brightness of the DualShock 4’s lightbar and the ability to use PayPal to pay for purchases on the PlayStation Store among others. The PS Vita update makes it easier to pair a Vita and PS4 and will automatically do so if both devices are online and the same user is signed in. Finally, the PS App will be able to receive push notifications for game invites, friend requests and game alerts. Users will also be able to opt to receive text messages and/or emails when they receive a friend request.
The updates will go live tomorrow.
