HoloLens 2 detailed by Microsoft, has Unreal Engine 4 support

The HoloLens 2 was recently detailed by Microsoft at a press conference in Barcelona, Spain.

The second iteration of Microsoft’s augmented reality headset has a field of view that’s increased by more than two times and is powered by a new MEMS laser display. Made out of carbon fibre, Microsoft has called the device “the smallest and most power efficient 2K display in existence today.”

Users can login to the HoloLens 2 with iris recognition, and advancements in technology mean that users can now directly touch and interact with holograms rather than using the swipe-based interface found inside the original HoloLens.

Microsoft also confirmed Unreal Engine 4 support for HoloLens 2 software, meaning we may see some neat gaming applications come from the new headset.

The HoloLens 2 looks to be priced at $3,500 USD; developers can grab their new headset later this year.
