You’ll be able to system link the Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One within the year

Gamers will be able to system link any combination of Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles within the year, Microsoft today confirmed.

Microsoft’s Albert Penello confirmed the ability to system link any Xbox with Kotaku earlier this morning.

“You can take an OG, a 360, a One, and an X, system link them together with four discs, and play LAN parties,” Penello said.

Microsoft used its E3 press conference to confirm backwards compatibility for the original Xbox on Xbox One. Only one game — Crimson Skies — has been confirmed when the program goes live later this year. Like Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, the functionality is on a game by game basis.
