Yes, the Project Scarlett Xbox will have a disc drive

The next-gen Xbox, codenamed Project Scarlett, will ship with a disc drive. The confirmation was made by Xbox head Phil Spencer at E3 2019.

“Yeah [physical discs are part of our future],” Spencer told GamesIndustry. “We know, because we see it, that more and more players are buying digital. We think the experience in certain instances, specifically if I am away from my console and everything is on my hard-drive with the entitlements are all there, there are some scenarios that are easy. But we know that people still have discs.”

Spencer said the disc drive will be present in order to give gamers a choice.

“I want to give people choice, and right now physical is a choice that millions of people love,” he said.

Microsoft recently unveiled the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which does not include a disc drive.

We’ll have more on Scarlett as it’s made available.
