Xbox One’s June update doesn’t allow for media files on external hard drives

Microsoft took to Reddit today to confirm that external hard drives, as part of the Xbox One June update, won’t support media files or playback.

“[There’s] no ability to add media from PC for now,” a Microsoft rep said. “You will only be able to use it with Xbox One consoles. Even if you create partitions, we format the entire drive.”

In the update, users will be able to take USB 3.0-enabled, 256GB or greater drives and use them as external storage devices for games, add-ons and apps.
