Xbox One October update brings Avatars, Alexa

An Xbox One October update is rolling out to all users now, Microsoft announced.

The update brings with it highly anticipated changes to the Xbox Avatar system alongside the Xbox Skill feature that will enable Amazon Alexa and Microsoft Cortana support. Said features were issued to Insiders a couple months back.

To celebrate the new Xbox Skill, those who buy a select Xbox One S or Xbox One X bundle from Amazon US will receive an Amazon Echo Dot for free.

A glimpse of Xbox Insider program staff Avatars can be seen above so you can get an idea of what the new customisation options look like. If you’d prefer, you can stick with your old Xbox 360-style Avatar as well.

Moreover, Dolby HDR video streaming support has also been included in the update; it’s supported through Netflix premium subscriptions.
