Xbox Live Gold subscription cost to rise in the UK

Update: A Microsoft Australia representative has confirmed with Stevivor that “there are no changes to announce at this time,” in regards to Aussie Xbox Live pricing.

Original story: The price of an Xbox Live Gold subscription will rise in the UK from next month, Microsoft has advised.

New pricing, in effect from 8 May, means that a one-month subscription will now cost £7 GBP instead of £6 GBP. A three-month subscription will become £18 GBP rather than £15 GBP and a year-long subscription will soon be priced at £50 GBP rather than £40 GBP.

For those with an active subscription, the new pricing won’t be put into place until 7 August.

“To ensure gamers have consistent pricing for Xbox Live Gold across Europe we are making changes to UK pricing from May 8th,” Microsoft said in a statement. “Prices will rise by £1 a month for our monthly subscriptions, £3 for our quarterly subscriptions and by £10 a year for an annual membership.

“This new pricing is aligned to the changes we made in the region in 2016 as we strive to offer our members premium gaming and entertainment services at a fair price. We have notified members whose accounts are on recurring billing in the UK so they are aware well in advance.”

We’ve reached out to Microsoft Australia to check on local pricing. An Xbox Live Gold subscription allows access to online multiplayer and the Xbox Games with Gold program.
