Xbox head Spencer reaffirms commitment to Redfall

"We're going to continue work," Phil said.

Xbox head Phil Spencer has reaffirmed the publisher’s commitment to Redfall, saying developer Arkane will work to improve the title post-launch.

Speaking with Kinda Funny, Spencer admitted that critical response to Arkane Austin’s latest was “significantly lower” than what Microsoft expected.

“We do mock reviews for every game that we launch, and this is double digits lower than we thought we would be with this game,” Spencer said.

“That’s one of the disappointing things; we would never strive to launch a game that we thought was going to review in the low 60s — it’s not part of our goals. [Redfall] was significantly lower than our internal metrics in terms of where it actually reviewed.”

We reviewed Redfall here, and while pointing out its comical framerate — and to a lesser extent, annoying 17 Gamerscore Achievements — found a lot of fun within its gameplay loop. Others didn’t agree; the title currently sits at a 59 (Xbox Series) and 57 (PC) on Metacritic.

“In terms of our commitment to the game… the team at Arkane is taking the near-term feedback,” Spencer continued.

“We’re still working on the 60 fps [update]. We have a good timeline for that. We’re committed to getting that done, and we’re going to continue to work [on] the game.”

Redfall is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
