Xbox 360 store looks to be shutting down in May

Those 40+ titles? That's only the beginning.

The Xbox 360 store on the whole looks to be shut down by this May, according to Xbox support.

“We will be closing the Xbox 360 Marketplace over the next year, so we encourage you to purchase any 360 games or DLC by May 2023,” a message found on Xbox’s support page (via ResetEra) now reads.

Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed that around 40 Xbox 360 titles would become unavaliable later this month. If backwards compatible, the titles will remain accessible on Xbox One and Xbox Series console storefronts.

Microsoft has yet to formally announce the store’s closure; we’ve reached out for further comment.

We’ll update this story as we learn more — but in the meantime, you might want to go and spend up on some Xbox 360 games you don’t want to miss out on.

Update: Microsoft has said the statement in question was posted “in error”.

“This message was posted in error and we can confirm the Xbox 360 marketplace will not close in May 2023,” a Microsoft representative has told Gematsu.
