World of Warcraft lapsed players can play for free this weekend

World of Warcraft is offering a weekend of free play to those with lapsed accounts, Blizzard has recently confirmed.

Originally spotted on Reddit (and thought to be a bug), Blizzard has since confirmed the Welcome Back Weekend.

Battle for Azeroth fast approaches and you’re needed back on the front lines,” Blizzard wrote. “This weekend only, we’re upgrading all inactive WoW accounts to allow you full access to the game and all your characters without a subscription.

“Game access will be granted at the last expansion purchased, or Warlords of Draenor, whichever is greater.”

The free play weekend runs until 24 June.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth heads to Windows PC and Mac on 14 August.
