Work on Halo: The Master Chief Collection began before Halo 4

343 Industries Community Manager Andy Dudynsky confirmed that work began on Halo: The Master Chief Collection began before Halo 4 shipped alongside co-op news.

Matchmaking in the games’ campaigns will not include in-progress matches, meaning you’ve got to partner up before you start a mission. Additionally, Halo 4‘s “Spartan Ops” will be included in the title.

Finally, here’s a run-down on how co-op works per each title in the bundle:

  • Halo: CE Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
  • Halo 2: Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
  • Halo 3 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen
  • Halo 4 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen
