Will Xbox soon support wireless speakers?

Xbox has joined the Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WISA), leading speculation its consoles will soon support wireless speakers.

Microsoft’s game console joins audio brands like Gibson, Bang & Olufsen, LG and Harman/Kardon. At present, Xbox is the only game console part of the association.

WISA members use a 7.1 channel audio standard that operates in the 5.2-5.8 GHz radio frequency spectrum. One-touch pairing is offered, similar to setups available on WiFi or Bluetooth.

As you may gather from the brands listed above, WISA-certified tech doesn’t come cheap; then again, neither does the upcoming Xbox One X.

We’ll keep you in the loop as more is known. The Xbox One X hits store shelves on 7 November.
