Will Europe actually get the PS4 in 2013?

A CVG source has claimed that Europeans won’t have to wait until 2014 to get their hands on the next-gen PS4.

“An insider involved with PlayStation’s business strategy” told CVG that Sony is ensuring their new console will hit the European marketplace before Microsoft’s next-gen console in an attempt to dominate in the region. The insider claims that Sony doesn’t want a repeat of the launches of the Xbox 360 and PS3, where the PS3 hit stores long after the Xbox 360 and lost market share as a result. The Australian market was not discussed in the article.

During February’s PS4 reveal, Sony would only confirm that the PS4 was coming in “Holiday 2013,” without specifying if the launch would be worldwide or region-based. Sony fans are wary of a worldwide release only because they’ve been burned in the past; the PS3 was originally launched in the USA on 17 November 2006, with an Australian and European release date some five months later on 23 March 2007.

We’ve contacted Sony Computer Entertainment Australia for more information, but were told that SCEA cannot comment on the release date of the PS4.
