Nintendo is cutting off support for Netflix and other video streaming services on Wii early next year.
“Unfortunately, Nintendo will suspend all video streaming services on Wii – including the Netflix Channel – after January 30, 2019,” Netflix states on its website.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Nintendo previously announced it would shutdown the Wii Shop in January 2019 — if you are intending to move Wii purchases to Wii U, like it’s 2012, do it ASAP.
It also seems like Netflix could be parting ways with Wii U. It removed GamePad touchscreen controllers earlier this year, and disappeared from the Wii U eShop a couple of months ago; although, it still works for those with it installed, so it’s not clear if this was an intentional move to end support.
Considering Wii only offers a SD output, if you are still using it for Netflix, it is time to upgrade anyway. It’s 2018! As Netflix only officially launched in Australia in 2015, it’s highly unlikely this news affects any Aussies.
