Until Dawn movie will have different characters, actors than its PS4 version

Which sorta makes sense.

We’re in the middle of a big Until Dawn revival — not only is the 2012 PS4 game being remade for PS5, but we’re getting a movie too. Sony has recently confirmed that the Until Dawn movie will feature different characters and actors than the film.

Until Dawn‘s new cast will include Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Ji-young Yoo (Sweet Home), and Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser [2022]). The characters the actors will play have yet to be confirmed, but it has been established that they’re new characters.

“At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy,” said PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash. “Alongside Screen Gems, we’ve assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We’re excited to reveal more about the movie soon.”

This all makes sense, really — Until Dawn‘s big actors not only would cost a pretty penny, but they’ve likely aged out of their roles. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it starred the likes of Mr Robot‘s Rami Malek, Scream 6‘s Hayden Panettiere, and Superstore‘s Nichole Sakura. In good news, though, Until Dawn‘s original cast have recently confirmed that they’ve been brought in to work on additional content for the Until Dawn remake.

Until Dawn is currently available on PS4; a remake is planned for PS5 later this year. We reviewed the original here.
