Unreal Engine 5 showcased in new PS5 demo

Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 was today showcased using a real-time demo running on the PS5.

Shown below, the nearly photorealistic engine has two new selling points in its Nanite and Lumen systems. The first, Nanite, “virtualises micropolygon geometry,” while the second, Lumen, is “a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.”

Unreal Engine 5 will be available to preview in early 2021, with a full release expected later that year. Epic has already confirmed that Fortnite will transition to the new engine in 2021.

While we wait for that all to happen, take a look at the Unreal Engine 5 in action below.
