Tumblr sold to WordPress, adult content ban remains

Tumblr has been sold to WordPress parent company Automattic Inc by Verizon, its former owner. Depsite the change in ownership, the website’s adult content ban has been confirmed to remain in place.

Automattic CEO, Matt Mullenweg, said he’s been a long-time Tumblr user and saw the picture-, video-, and text-sharing platform as a compliment to the WordPress content management system (CMS) platform.

“It’s just fun,” Mullenweg told the Wall Street Journal. “We’re not going to change any of that.”

An adult content ban was enacted on the site in December of last year, probhibiting sexually explicit photos and videos alongside “female-presenting nipples”. That ban remains in place today.

Do you still use Tumblr? It’s believed that the site has lost almost a third of its users since the ban was put in place.
