Titanfall 2: Free maps and modes post-launch, multiplayer using “every cloud”

Titanfall 2 will take advantage of lessons learnt from Xbox One’s original Titanfall, offering free modes and maps as to not splinter the game’s user base. Moreover, Respawn’s John Shiring has told Engadget that the sequel will use “every cloud” when it comes to multiplayer.

“Since this launch is going to be even bigger than the last game, I really wanted to make sure that we had an insane amount of scalability and reliability,” Shiring said. “What’s really important to me is the game just works … I want the game to be hosted everywhere, to find places near our players and make sure that we have absolute stability and reliability.”

Regions like South Africa didn’t get localised Azure servers for Titanfall like Australia did, as a prime example.

“Obviously the partnership with Microsoft was fantastic for us, but now as we’re expanding out, the more flexibility we have, the better service we can offer the players,” he says. “Being on Azure and Google and Amazon, it’s just added benefit.”

Shiring’s a busy man, also confirming with PCGamer that future Titanfall 2 maps and modes will be delivered free to customers.

“One of our lessons is we’re not gonna sell maps anymore,” he said. “All the modes and maps coming to Titanfall 2 after release will all be free.”

Titanfall heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 from 28 October.
