The Game Awards adds new Student Game category

The Game Awards has a new student category, judged by some of the industry’s finest.

The new Student Game award was today announced by The Game Awards, intended to support emerging game development talent at the high school and university level.

The award can be won by teams or individuals; five nominees will be announced before a winner is named on 7 December. Interested parties may nominate their games for consideration here through 3 November. There is no entry fee to nominate.

The category will be judged by a handful of industry greats, as follows:

  • Todd Howard (Executive Producer and Director, Bethesda Game Studios)
  • Hideo Kojima (Director, Kojima Productions)
  • Ilkka Paananen (CEO and Co-founder, Supercell)
  • Kim Swift (Design Director, EA Motive)
  • Vince Zampella (CEO, Respawn Entertainment)

The Game Awards will be streamed from Los Angeles on 7 December. Stevivor is just one outlet on the Awards’ international panel of judges.

Steve Wright

Steve's the owner and Editor-in-Chief of Stevivor.com, the country’s leading independent video games outlet. Steve arrived in Australia back in 2001 on what was meant to be a three-month working holiday before deciding to emigrate and, eventually, becoming a citizen.

Stevivor is a combination of ‘Steve’ and ‘Survivor’, which made more sense back in 2001 when Jeff Probst was up in Queensland. The site started as Steve’s travel blog before transitioning over into video games.

Aside from video games, Steve has interests in hockey and Star Trek, playing the former and helping to cover video games about the latter on TrekMovie.com. By day, Steve works as the communications manager of the peak body representing Victorians as they age.
