The Game Awards 2022 dated for 9 December in Australia

Or 8 December over in LA!

The Game Awards 2022 has been dated for 9 December here in Australia, its organisers have today declared.

Cause we’re clearly in the future, that means those attending in Los Angeles will be doing so on 8 December instead. Regardless of your location, you’ll be able to stream the event from over 40 different digital video platforms including Twitch and YouTube.

Alongside the news comes a new category: Best Adaption.

“The Game Awards will introduce Best Adaptation, a category to recognize creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, and comic books,” a press release declared at the same time it reminded us that Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz were in attendance last year to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

“The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to tip its hat to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds lore and context to our favorite gaming franchises,” said The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley.  “With so many game-inspired projects across entertainment, the time is right to honor excellence in adapting video game worlds to other mediums.”

We’ll keep you informed about the show as we get closer to The Game Awards 2022. Stevivor has served on the event’s judging panel for a number of years now.
