That weird The Game Awards 2025 statue teased Larian’s Divinity

Whoever said it was Diablo?

Update: As it turns out, that statue was promoting Larian’s Divinity. You can check out the game’s first teaser trailer below.

“While Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity,” Larian said of its upcoming title.

“Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled Divinity’,” said Swen Vincke, founder and game director of Larian Studios. “We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place. This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands. This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.”

Original story: Geoff Keighley has taken to social media to tease a real-life monolith in the Mojave Desert, and some believe it’s to tease a new Diablo 4 expansion that will be announced during The Game Awards 2025.

Keighley took to Twitter with an image of a monolith covered in a host of skeletons, alongside the caption “regal.inspiring.thickness”. That corresponds to a specific point on the earth, using the what3words geocode service.

Those close to the Mojave Desert location have provided photos of the real-life monolith, both in the daytime and at night. Needless to say, the monolith is far more impressive in the dark.

Windows Central’s Jez Corden has also taken to social media, reporting that the tease is connected to a 2026 Diablo 4 expansion that will also bring a new ranking system and leaderboards.

Whether Corden is right or wrong will be revealed at The Game Awards, we’ll find out soon enough. The Game Awards 2025 livestreams from 12.00 pm AEDT on 12 December here in Australia.

Update: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has taken to ResetEra to state that the tease isn’t related to Diablo 4 after all.

“No idea where Jez is getting that, but this statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion,” Schreier wrote, adding, “I don’t currently plan on reporting what it is, sorry, but it’s a good one.”

Once again, we’ll find out at The Game Awards next week.
