Stevivor.com’s Game of the Year 2011: #2

We’re getting down to the wire here, and as promised, our last two spots are tie-free. Mostly because they got ridiculously high (and differing) scores from the ten writers and staff here at Stevivor.com.

In second place this year, we present to you Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Jasper is our resident Creed-head (Creed fan? Assassino? Bah, whatever.) and his review of Revelations clearly explains why we voted this game into our second spot:

“The guys at Ubisoft certainly have their tweaking skills on lock: the way they managed to throw away almost everything that was hateful about Assassin’s Creed (read: that bloody hill in Masyaf) and leave behind all the good bits for Assassin’s Creed II. That tradition has kept up; so while the fourth game in the series offers very little innovation on previous titles, what is there is as solid as the muscles that I imagine rippled majestically across Ezio Auditore’s back when he was in his prime,” Jasper gushed.

Basically, the Assassin’s Creed series started off as a proof of concept (you know what we mean if you’ve played all the way through the original), and since Creed II has continued to refine and improve itself year after year. Revelations‘ multiplayer alone makes it a strong contender for GOTY; the game almost took out our top spot, actually.

Game of the year…so far:

Well, we’re down to the final reveal tomorrow. What do you think will take our top spot? To recap, here’s where we’re at for Game of the Year 2011:

  1. ?????
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft)
  3. Dead Space 2 (Visceral, EA), Dance Central 2 (Harmonix, Microsoft)
  4. Uncharted 3 (Naughty Dog, Sony Computer Entertainment)
  5. Portal 2 (Valve, EA), Saints Row the Third (Volition, THQ) and Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Eidos Montreal, Square Enix)

What do you think, gamers? Are we getting it right?
