Steam titles will have 10% GST added in Australia

Kotaku today reports that Steam titles purchased in Australia will soon have an additional 10% GST added to their totals.

The additional charge was confirmed in an email from Valve to developers. It confirmed the charge will go into place from July.

“The VAT tax amount will be included in the advertised price of your product, just like VAT is currently treated in the EU. This means the customer will pay the price displayed on the storefront, and the tax will be separated out afterwards,” an email to developers reads.

A number of other regions — Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Iceland, South Africa and India — will see similar charges from March.
