Starfield release date will come before that of The Elder Scrolls 6

The Starfield release date will be before that of The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has confirmed.

Speaking with IGN, Howard said that Bethesda’s cycle has been locked in as “Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Fallout,” and that he and his team is looking to change things up. Hence, Starfield first.

“You have this Starfield game in your head, you sort of say, well, when? It can be never, you could say never,” Howard said. “But look, we’re creatives, and it’s like we have to make this game, and this is the time. So Elder Scrolls 6 is going to have to wait a little bit.”

Howard also asserted the eight-year gap between Elder Scrolls core games was a great thing.

“On one hand, I think it’s good to miss things,” he said. “I think that makes people come to it with really fresh eyes. I think when they eventually see the game, and what we have in mind, they will understand the gap more in terms of technology and what we want to do. This is a game we need to design so people will want to play it for a decade [like Skyrim] – at least.”

Bethesda has confirmed Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be shown at E3 2019 this year, so don’t expect a 2019 release date for either. For now, both are planned for Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Bethesda’s E3 2019 press conference is set for 10.30 am AEST on 10 June.
