Star Trek Prodigy Season 2 available in full in France

Sacre bleu!

Star Trek Prodigy Season 2 is available, in its entirety, in France, far ahead of any official release announcement by owner Netflix.

Reports on Reddit state that all of Prodigy Season 2 was released across multiple platforms in France over the weekend, including Netflix, Apple TV, and France TV. On the latter, national service, those who aren’t in France can still access (French language) episode titles and synopses. Spoilers for the season obviously follow if you click the link above.

Dan & Kevin Hageman, the brothers who helm Star Trek Prodigy, took to Twitter after news of the season’s availability, calling it a “leak” before deleting the tweet entirely.

“We’d appreciate the help not spreading this leak,” reads the cached version of the now-deleted tweet. It’s unclear as to why the Hageman’s deleted the message; they’ve not explained why. Those on Reddit believe the tweet was removed because channels in France have the legal right to provide the season, meaning it’s not a leak at all.

The episodes on France TV reportedly only offer French language options, but there are enough French-speaking Star Trek fans out there to keep the rest of the fanbase on guard: spoilers of the full season will likely follow.

We’ve reached out to Netflix here in Australia to see if they can shed any light on the matter. We’ll keep you posted as you learn more.

Update: Reporting from French podcast The Quadrant Pop suggests that France Télévision has purchased the legal right to air Star Trek Prodigy Season 1 and 2, immediately, and until 2028.

In a statement to the podcast, France Télévision has said (via translation), that the available episodes are “not a leak” but part of “a contractual framework” between it and Paramount.

There’s still no word as to when Prodigy Season 2 will air on Netflix for us English-speaking folk.

Paramount dropped Star Trek Prodigy back in June 2023, where it remained in limbo until Netflix swooped in and saved the show. Season 1 of the series is already available on Netflix, with no word on when we can expect Season 2. Yet.
