Square Enix: Microsoft policies are stopping A Realm Reborn from appearing on Xbox

RPGSite.net reports that the ball is really in Microsoft’s court if they’d like to see Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on Xbox 360 or Xbox One.

Director Naoki Yoshida spoke to RPGSite.net and confirmed that Microsoft’s ongoing Xbox Live policies are keeping A Realm Reborn from appearing on the current- or next-gen Xbox. Specifically, Microsoft doesn’t allow titles on its platforms to share multiplayer servers with other platforms.

“The policy has not changed on Microsoft’s side,” Yoshida said when asked if A Realm Reborn was a Sony exclusive or not.

It’s believed that Microsoft made an expection in the case of Final Fantasy XI, but aren’t prepared to do it again for XIV. Square Enix have confirmed that they plan to use a single set of shared servers to handle A Realm Reborn players on PC, PS3 and later, PS4.
