Spider-Man 2 Mary Jane model calls out “unacceptable” fan behaviour

As well she should.

Stephanie Tyler Jones, the model who has lent her likeness to Spider-Man 2‘s Mary Jane, has taken to social media to call out fans who’ve “crossed boundaries” and engaged in “unacceptable” behaviour.

“I appreciate the love for my role in the Spider-Man games and the positive response to my version of MJ has gotten over the years. However, I am no longer an actively auditioning actor or model,” Jones wrote.

Jones provided motion capture for the original Spider-Man alongside additional likeness scans for Spider-Man 2.

“Over the weekend, some followers crossed boundaries,” she continued. “One event went to the extent of calling my workplace and leaving multiple voicemails wanting to speak with me and requesting I call back, which is unacceptable and considered stalking.

“My skincare page is not for Spider-Man or MJ fans,” Jones said. “Bottom line is that I came into work this morning and immediately felt unsafe and uncomfortable hearing those voicemails.”

Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson took to social media in support of Jones.

“I shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t harass game developers, voice actors, mo-cap performers, or face models (or anyone else),” Stevenson wrote. “Don’t message them directly, and especially don’t track down phone numbers or personal information in an attempt to contact them.”

Spider-Man 2 is currently available on PS5. It won Best PlayStation and Best Action Adventure categories in our recent Game of the Year 2023 awards program.
