Sony won’t be locking PS4 DVR features behind PS Plus

We’ve just reported that Microsoft is planning to lock the Xbox One’s Skype, Smart Match and DVR functionality behind their Xbox Gold subscription level, and now we’re reporting that Sony does not have the same strategy. Sony today has confirmed that the PS4’s DRM functionality will be available to all, not just Sony PS Plus subscribers.

SCE Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news, answering “no” when asked about about DVRing, further clarifying that “all” users will have the functionality.

As good as that sounds, don’t forget that you’ll now require a PS Plus membership for online play.

The PS4 will be available during the 2013 holiday season in Australia for $549 AUD.
