Sony shuts down Bluepoint Games, less than five years after its acquisition

The maker of remakes such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus is no more.

Sony has shut down Bluepoint Games, the maker of such remakes as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, less than five years after the corporation acquired the studio.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the closure means approximately 70 employees will lose their jobs.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” a PlayStation spokesperson told the outlet, confirming the closure. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

Bloomberg’s report stated that Bluepoint was recently working on a God of War live service game, but that was cancelled before a public reveal.

Sony acquired Bluepoint Games back in October 2021.

“PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players,” Bluepoint Games’ President Marco Thrush said of the deal at the time.

“Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”
