Sony says using the PS4 is better than allowing cross-play

Sony has declared that the PS4 provides “the best experience for users” when asked for an update on cross-play with Xbox One and Switch.

“On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief,” Sony chief executive Kenichiro Yoshida told The Independent.

The statement comes after Sony’s Shawn Layden said the company was “looking at a lot of the possibilities” back in June.

Yoshida continued to stress that the PS4 allows cross-play with PC and said that arrangement — and no others — looks likely.

“But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform,” he said.

Do you think Sony is still looking into possibilities, or is cross-play between PS4, Xbox One and Switch in games like Fortnite, Minecraft and Rocket League a pipe dream?
