Sony retiring PS5 Accolades feature

Did you ever use it?

Sony has announced it is retiring the PS5 Accolades feature, one meant to provide feel-goods for fellow online players.

“In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported,” Sony advised.

“The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.”

If you’re not familiar with the feature — and that’s likely, hence its termination — Accolades allowed you the opportunity to bestow a fellow online player with one of four honours: Leader, Helpful, Welcoming, and Good Sport.

“You’ll meet players who contribute to the community and embody PlayStation’s ideals,” reads a description written by Sony. “To help encourage our best members and recognize positive influences, you can anonymously give someone an accolade after an online match. The accolades you receive are displayed on your profile.”

RIP, Accolades… though you mightn’t be missed?
